I was recently in Luzern, Switzerland (lovely city by the way, well worth a visit if you’re in the land of Technicolor landscapes and Lindt) and visited the recently-opened  KKL, a combined art gallery, conference and cultural space.

Penned by the famed Jean Nouvel, the most striking thing about the building is the striking forecourt which is overhung by what appears to be a floating plane of black. When approaching the front of the building it’s impossible to gauge any thickness to it (a situation that, sadly but necessarily, changes as you walk around the side of the building). None the less, it’s a fantastic illusion and a masterful piece of architecture.
